The Best Time to Build a House in Florida

home construction site

It’s the beginning of the new year and you have decided to build your dream home. Now you’ve got to decide when to start construction. After over two decades in the residential construction industry, the luxury home builders at HART Homes know a thing or two about the best time of the year to start building a house in South Florida. While we’ve started custom home construction projects throughout the whole year, if you want to avoid as many delays or increased costs as possible, some months are better than others. To find the best time to build a house in Florida, you should factor in the following things.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Most contemporary home builders in the U.S. have to worry about freezing weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures. Fortunately, our Fort Lauderdale home builders don’t have to think about harsh winters. Instead, our builders have to worry about the opposite, extremely hot temperatures. While warm weather isn’t likely to hinder tasks such as pouring concrete like sub-zero weather does, construction crews are put at risk when temperatures go up. July is the hottest month in South Florida, with average high temperatures of 90°F to 92°F.1 A few days even reach 100°F temperatures or higher. If you are considering the comfort and safety of your builders, July may not be the best month to start building a house.

Consider Hurricane Season

Miami home builders, West Palm Beach home builders, and other builders in South Florida don’t have to worry about winter, but they do have to worry about hurricane season. Strong winds, heavy rains, and other dangerous weather conditions often result in project delays. Hurricane season lasts from June to November. Due to its length, it may be impossible to entirely avoid starting work on your custom-built home during hurricane season. If the construction of your home is still going on during this time, you and your builders must pay close attention to the weather forecast.

Benefit From Off-Season Deals

If you are looking to keep your construction costs lower, fall is the best time of the year to start building a house. The fall and winter months are off-season for residential home construction; that means the cost of labor and materials is usually down. Lumber prices, in particular, take a significant dip at the start of the fall season. Lumber is more expensive during the spring and summer. Since autumns and winters are not harsh, it may truly be the best time to build a home in Florida.
